The Government of India has appointed Shri Ajay Bhadoo, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1999 batch from the Gujarat cadre, as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Government e Marketplace (GeM), effective March 3, 2025. In addition to his existing role as Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce, Shri Bhadoo will now lead GeM, India’s premier e-marketplace for government procurement.

Shri Bhadoo’s appointment coincides with GeM’s transition to a next-generation digital marketplace, a transformation powered by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). The platform has achieved a Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of ₹4.58 lakh crore, marking a 28.65% year-on-year growth.

With over two decades of experience in policy formulation and implementation across various sectors, including urban infrastructure development, Shri Bhadoo brings a wealth of expertise to his new role. His previous positions include serving as Deputy Election Commissioner at the Election Commission of India, Joint Secretary to former President Shri Ram Nath Kovind, CEO of the Gujarat Maritime Board, and Commissioner of Rajkot and Vadodara Municipal Corporations. He holds a degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s in Business Law from the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru.

GeM’s evolution under Shri Bhadoo’s leadership is anticipated to further enhance efficiency and transparency in public procurement, aligning with the government’s commitment to leveraging technology for good governance.
